A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda founded ISKCON in New York in July 1966. Its early members studied the Bhagavad-gītā and practised the congregational chanting of Krishna’s names.
The movement expanded across North America and later to Europe, India and other regions. The Governing Body Commission (GBC) was established in 1970 for international governance within its defined responsibilities.
ISKCON communities run temples, educational programmes, rural projects, festivals, book publication and food distribution. Local centres may have distinct legal identities and governance arrangements.
The organisation marks its 60th anniversary in 2026. Local registration details for Alicante must not be confused with those of international bodies.
