The Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, or Bhāgavata Purāṇa, is an important Sanskrit Purāṇa within Vaiṣṇava traditions. Devotional tradition connects it with Vyāsa and the teachings spoken by Śuka to King Parīkṣit.
It has twelve cantos covering cosmology, spiritual teachers and devotees, ethics and devotional practice. The tenth canto is especially known for narratives about Krishna.
Pay attention to each story’s speaker, audience and context. Not every narrative is meant as a direct literal instruction for everyday conduct.
ISKCON particularly studies Śrīla Prabhupāda’s translation and commentary published by BBT and available in Vedabase.
